DEFINITIONS OF BEARING CAPACITY OF SOIL

BEARING CAPACITY OF SOIL

Gross Pressure Intensity:- The gross pressure intensity as the total pressure at the base of the footing due to the weight of the super structure, self weight of the footing and the weight of the earth fill.

Net Pressure Intensity :- the net loading intensity on the foundation is the gross intensity of loading minus the weight of displaced soil above the foundation base.

Ultimate Bearing Capacity :- Min gross pressure intensity at the base of the foundation at which soil fails in shear.

Net Ultimate Bearing Capacity :-  min pressure intensity causing the sear failure of the soil.

Safe Bearing Capacity :- Maximum pressure resist by the soil is call safe bearing capacity.

Allowable Bearing Capacity :- -the net intensity of loading which the foundation will carry without settlement in excess of the permissible value for the structure under consideration but not exceeding net safe bearing capacity.
